'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes clash with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful effort from outside the box, and the defender quickly hammered in the loose ball before racing off toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an incredible turnaround given Swansea had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. During the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan shouting out and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory earned a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right flank after the team changed tactics. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way the underdogs attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the basics and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're doing well and then without warning they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at his former club and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without serious challenge. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

He has shown that growth for club and country, shining for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including home and away games against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the kid from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

His only game for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they played on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was shut owing to temperatures of -15C. "It was a long trip and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How hard was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the following person to drive independently and behind the wheel. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
