Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for the evening session. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup. His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running. The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the fence. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill corner approaching the last turn on to the pit straight. Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
